Is the Musée Gustave Moreau free?

Is it free?
Answer: yes in four cases. The first Sunday of each month for everyone, every day for those under 18, every day for EU nationals aged 18-25, and with the Paris Museum Pass. Otherwise, the ticket is one of the least expensive in Paris.

The museum follows the rule of national museums. On the first Sunday of the month, access to the permanent collections is free for everyone, with no need to book. Here, this does not create endless queues like at the Louvre: the museum welcomes around 40,000 visitors per year, and even on that Sunday, you can enter within a few minutes. It is the busiest day of the year for the museum, though it remains very manageable.

Visitors under 18 are admitted free of charge all year round, as are EU nationals aged 18-25, upon presentation of an ID. For families, this means only the adults pay, and at a modest rate. I discuss this further on the page visiting with children.

The museum is also included in the Paris Museum Pass, which covers around sixty museums and monuments. The pass is not worth it for the Musée Gustave Moreau alone, as its ticket is one of the least expensive in Paris. However, if you visit the Louvre, Orsay and the Orangerie in the same week, it already pays for itself, and the Musée Gustave Moreau becomes a bonus. Details are on the page Paris Museum Pass.

One last point, often overlooked: the full-price ticket grants a reduced rate at the Musée Guimet, Musée Jean-Jacques Henner, Musée d’Orsay, Palais Garnier, and the Musée de la Vie Romantique, and vice versa. Keep it in your pocket. Everything is detailed on the page tickets.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Musée Gustave Moreau free on Sundays?

Only on the first Sunday of each month, for the permanent collections. On other Sundays, the ticket applies. The general rule for Paris is on the page When are Paris museums free?.

Do students get in free?

EU nationals aged 18–25 do, whether they are students or not. Other students are subject to the standard rate, which remains modest. See the tickets page.

Does the Paris Museum Pass include the Musée Gustave Moreau?

Yes, with direct entry and no time slot. The pass makes sense if you plan to visit three or four major museums in two days; I explain this on the Paris Museum Pass page.
